Q. How do we change? – C.H., Tennessee
A. We change incrementally, dramatically, or slightly; yet everyone and everything changes. John F. Kennedy said, “Change is the law of life.” This is so true.
The question you pose can be answered on many levels.
On a physical level, our skin sloughs off, our organs age and our cells change daily.
Spiritually, as we develop a deeper relationship with grace, we change.
Psychologically, as we become more accepting of ourselves and others, we change.
Emotionally, as we forgive ourselves and others, we change.
We can change reluctantly or enthusiastically.
The real question is, how do you accept change? How do you integrate new aspects of yourself and new situations into your life?
Ariane deBonvoisin founder and CEO of First30Days, has spent a good portion of her life coping with and researching how to deal with any and every change. In her latest book, The First 30 Days: Your Guide to Any Life Change, Ariane examines how to have an optimistic mindset towards change and transition. http://www.first30days.com/
Some people bemoan change. Others invite it. When change knocks upon your door, welcome it.
Let go of controlling the outcomes. Woody Allen said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.”
Commit yourself to trusting that change happens as part of your birthright. We change in every moment, even if it seems familiar.
Author Alan Cohen writes, "It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power."
May you be empowered to embrace change, shift radically and be fulfilled.
